Elements
Finally, a book about writing that you can write in, learn from, and get inspired by all at once – a craftbook.
Elements is a space for writing inspiration and writing practice.
It’s a comingling of thinking about writing and writing deepening.
If you write about your memories, this is for you.
If you write about life, people, what makes us tick, or the things that we feel, this is for you.
If you dream on the page, remember on paper, or thrive in the space between your mind and the keyboard, this is for you.
Put simply – if you write, this is for you.

Patti M Hall draws on the cardinal features of the elements – earth, fire, air, and water – and invites you to move into your writing, developing your language and flow from scenes and personal anecdotes to lifewriting, and potentially even to meaningful memoir pieces. Elements asks nothing of you, the writer. Rather it offers “reflection frames”, Hall’s own writing leads and scene stems, as places to start, and its full colour lined pages provide spaciousness for your first drafts. It’s not a system or a model, it’s pointing your attention to places in your mind to expand your sight of details that you can add to what you’re writing a layer at a time or while you revise.
